The Feasibility Study on the Kra Canal (Part 2: Commercial and Physical Aspects)

By Associate Professor Dr.Kamonchanok Suthiwartnarueput and Mr. Suthisant Menasveta in 1999

The feasibility study of the kra canal on the commercial aspect is a documentary research together with attitude survey through questionnaire and interview. Focuses are on the ships' volume via the canal and the financial return of the project.

The finding are that the ships' volume expects to pass through the canal is about 30 to 40 vessel per day. For those who are agree and disagree with this project is not much difference. The return on investment of the canal, base on canal fee and investment cost in term of present value for the period of 30, 40, 50 and 60 years, is rather low.
